I am trying to break your heart.

Today I’m going to make you cry.
And how will I accomplish this, you ask?
Well, I’m going to share a few things that consistently bring tears to my eyes in a feel good sort of way.
First up? There’s this. I visit Blackbird’s website every day because she’s so damned cozy. I visit her Terminal entry about once a month or so, because it helps my keratoconjunctivitis sicca.
Next? This Kleenex commercial. My tears begin at the 0:25 mark, and don’t really stop until the word Kleenex pops up at the end. Seriously. It’s the song lyrics. It’s the script (although I like to pretend those people are being spontaneous, I doubt they truly are. I’m so cynical, it makes me cry. I’m crying. Are you crying?).
Finally? Holy crap. This song. Especially at the 1:58 mark. (The video is a fan video. Part of the song has been cut. It’s “Plea From a Cat Named Virtute” by The Weakerthans.) I can NOT sing along to that song without choking at the “I know you’re strong” line. It doesn’t matter where I hear it or what mood I’m in, “I know you’re strong” kills me every time. That poor cat!
If you’re NOT crying by now, you need to tell me what does it for you, because I’m starting to think that you’re heartless.
And don’t get all “The State of The World” with me, because I know! Me too!
The sad cries are an even stickier monkey! We’ll wrestle with them some other day.
I know you’re strong… WAAAAAAUUUGGGGHHHHH!!!!

I LOVE that Weakerthans song. I spent a good week trying to track down that album.
(It’s about my cat. I swear.)

I worried for a while that I cried every time that Kleenex commercial came on. Now, I know that I am not that crazy…it’s nice to be in such good company.

“The living years” by Mike and the Mechanics always makes me cry.

Many years ago there was a commercial for, I think, Hallmark where a girl goes away to college and then calls her father and says, “Dad, I just don’t fit in.” My cold and cynical heart broke in half whenever I saw it.

The weepiest commercial ever: Is it the Humane Society that uses Sarah McLaughlin’s “In the Arms of the Angel” played over images of sick or injured animals? I cannot watch it anymore.

Kathy, you are SO right! That Humane Society commercial KILLS me. I can barely think about it.
